Flouring Cake Chinatown: A Lavender Dessert Dreamland

The first time I passed by Flouring Cake Shop was in early December 2023 when I just finished my last relationship. I treat roaming in my neighborhood as a good way of self-healing and reflection. I remember I was on my way to Thank You Coffee for a Hojicha Latte, but immediately drawn to the beautiful display window of Flouring Cake Shop. I usually went to Thank You Coffee on weekends to grab a latte, but Flouring Cake Shop, which was just next door to Thank You Coffee, Sesame LA, and Pearl River Deli, captivated me and made me stop in my tracks. The shop's interior is entirely decorated in shades of lavender, from the walls and the font of the shop name to the cakes and even the sweaters worn by the owner.

Since then, I almost went to Flouring Cake every other week, sometimes with friends, but most of the time, I was with myself. Flouring Cake Shop, along with Chinatown itself, witnessed my emotional traits about relationships, friendship, food cravings, and nostalgia.

Flouring Cake Shop is owned and operated by Chef Heather Wong, who previously served as a chef at renowned bakeries like Bottega Louie, Sweetsalt, Cascabel, and Josephine Bakery. Her specialty is crafting desserts and cakes with floral elements, whether it’s a cream in a floral shape or the fresh petals on the cake.

The website is as beautiful as the shop itself (https://flouringla.com/). The theme color of the cake shop is purple, so is the favorite color of Chef Heather Wong, you can see she wears a lavender sweater and apron a lot. As a customer, I do appreciate this kind of ingenuity, there are so many efforts behind Flouring Cake Shop.

The cake bars at Flouring Cake Shop all look exquisite to me. Personally, I find the Ube Coconut flavor to be the best. I have tried various other flavors such as strawberry, passion fruit, lavender lemon, S'mores bar, and Pavlova for desserts. None of them tasted too sweet like American cakes you can find in groceries, which are usually too sugary for me. They are also light and won't cause any discomfort in your stomach, and come with a fruit adornment that adds to their appeal.

Another thing I quite like about Flouring Cake Shop is the lavender lucky cat, which is the mascot of Flouring Cake Shop, inviting wealth, luck, and customers into the shop. There is some merch you can buy here, including T-shirts, cute utensils, and notebooks.
